American Red Cross Volunteer Opportunities
Good Morning,
I am reaching out to the Board regarding volunteer needs with the Red Cross. One of our more critical needs is Transportation Specialists for delivery of blood products to hospitals. I have included a description of the key responsibilities of the role for your review. I am hoping that you can help us get the message out to your residents and the community at-large. I am more than happy to answer any additional questions or provide more information. Additionally, we have also had several new volunteers that decided now was a good time to start the position and learn routes due to the greatly reduced traffic volume in the Atlanta area. I am also including the link to a video link made by our own cherished volunteers. If you have any questions or need additional information, please let me know.
We utilize volunteer drivers to make the deliveries of blood products to hospitals for regularly scheduled runs. We also have replenishment runs if a facility is running low on product and their regular delivery is not immediate and emergency runs if there is some type of mass casualty situation and the on-hand supply is inadequate. The runs are made from our processing facility in Douglasville using Red Cross vehicles and no commercial license is required. We ask that a volunteer commit to at least 1 shift per month which is about 4 hours in duration. The schedules are flexible and work around a volunteers availability so they are not required to commit to a specific weekly or monthly schedule. I am hoping that some in your network might be interested in assisting with this role because we still need about 70 more drivers. This is also an opportunity for friends or couples to go together as both a driver and a navigator.
